Scripture: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
It was Homecoming Week in our small town, and the seniors were gathering on the football field at 7 AM to watch the sunrise over the hills bordering the town. Each day I pass the football field on my way to work, but on that special day I slowed down to try to take in some of the beauty my students were seeing. The day had been chosen at random on the activities calendar, but God showed up. On cue, the sky turned a brilliant pink graced with oranges and yellows. I could just glimpse the blanketed silhouettes of the early birds on the 50-yard line, looking up together in wonder.
As I drove on toward a day filled with meetings, classroom management, and a thousand split-second decisions, I focused for a moment, instead, on His splendor. The windows and doors that I passed were aglow with the reflected sunrise, showing me mirror images of the pinks and oranges in the east. I thanked the Lord for the glory of His creation, for his artistry, and for his goodness.
I prayed that the beauty of creation would capture many hearts that morning—and each morning.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank You for the beauty of Your creation. We praise You for Your creativity and splendor! You are a God of beauty and renewal. Your steadfast love is new every morning. Thank You for Your faithfulness to us, O Lord. Open our eyes to take in Your majesty. In Jesus’ name. Amen
