“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.” Daniel 2:20-22, NIV
This year has felt like more than just another school year—this is my first year in a new role, my second year in a doctoral leadership program, and my youngest child’s senior year of high school. Between new bell schedules, curriculum adoption, and staffing changes, it feels like my days are filled with more new than old, leading to more questions than answers. I have found that with so much going on and happening so fast, it can be hard to slow down and hear God’s voice at times. And while I wish I was better at this, I admit I am still learning. Trying to slow down time isn’t possible, but learning how to pause and fully embrace God’s presence in our lives is—and it’s in those moments of His presence that I can truly appreciate the beauty of this season, both in my personal life and in my role as an educator.
He Gives Wisdom
When serving in leadership roles, we often encounter situations that require discernment and insight. Whether it’s navigating the complexities of school policies, addressing the diverse needs of our students, or supporting our colleagues, we can rely on God’s promise that He gives wisdom to those who seek it. When we invite His wisdom into our decision-making, we open ourselves to a greater understanding of our purpose and responsibilities.
He Reveals Wisdom
God doesn’t just give wisdom; He reveals it. He uncovers the hidden truths we need to guide us. In moments of uncertainty or confusion, we can trust that God knows what lies in darkness and that His light will illuminate our paths. This assurance should encourage us to lean into His guidance, especially when faced with tough choices or unforeseen obstacles.
Praising His Wisdom
Our level of faith is often indicated by how quickly we start praising God, even before we see the outcome we desire. If we only offer praise once the answer is in hand, we may be limiting our experience of His power. Greater faith allows us to praise God when the promise is given, even if the fulfillment is yet to come.

As I navigate developing processes and procedures, writing papers, and creating lasting memories with my current senior who spends his sixth hour with me, I’m learning the importance of pausing to recognize God’s hand in it all. These moments—both challenging and joyful—remind me that every experience is an opportunity to reflect on His wisdom and grace.
Today, I invite you to pause and reflect. Are there areas in your life or work where you’re waiting for answers? Take a moment to thank Him for the promises He’s made, the guidance He’s always ready to provide, and the wisdom He’s eager to share with you. In every season, let’s remind ourselves to praise God, not just when things are clear, but especially when they’re not. He is ever-present, powerful, and faithful, guiding us through every change with His unfailing wisdom.
And if you have any tips for learning to let your baby go and grow into the adult he is meant to be, I’d love to hear them!
