Sent to Love

Scripture:

“Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me into the world, so now I send you.” John 20:21

Introduction:

The words of Jesus make it clear that we have been sent into the world, but what exactly have we been sent to do? We know, among other things, He came to die on a cross, and to take away the sins of the world (John 1:29), but what about us? How do we carry on His work in our small corner of the world?

To understand our calling better, it’s helpful to remember what Jesus said about His coming and the fundamental motivation behind why the Father sent Him. “For God so loved the world He gave (sent) His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

The Father sent Jesus into the world because He loves people. And now Jesus is sending you and me for the same reason. We have been sent to love!
