WHEN QUITTING FEELS LIKE THE ONLY OPTION

Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9, NIV

Some days, the weight of being an educator feels unbearable. The long hours, the difficult students, the lack of support—it all adds up. And for many, the thought of walking away feels like the only option. If that’s where you are today, you’re not alone.

But before you decide to leave, consider what you’ll miss: The laughter in your classroom. The lightbulb moments when a struggling student finally understands. The notes from students who say, You made a difference in my life.

Education is hard, but the impact is eternal.

Still, God does not call you to burnout. If you’re feeling weary, it’s time to fight for your joy:

  • Remember your calling. This isn’t just a job—it’s a purpose. You’re here for a reason. On the hard days, look for the small wins—they remind you that your work matters.
  • Guard your heart. Negative thoughts and frustrations can take over if you let them. Surround yourself with encouragement—Scripture, worship, and people who uplift you.
  • Set boundaries. You don’t have to do it all. Leave work at work when you can, and don’t be afraid to say no.
  • You’re not alone. God is with you in your classroom, your conversations, and even the hard moments. He may also place others beside you to help you stand strong and stay faithful.
  • Trust the timing. If God is calling you to stay, He will sustain you. If He is leading you elsewhere, He will make the way clear.

No matter where you are in this journey, know this: your work matters. The seeds you plant today may not bloom immediately, but they will grow. Keep going, educator. God sees you, and He is with you.

Challenge: Spend time in prayer today, asking God to refresh your heart. Write down three moments from this school year that reminded you why you do this work. Let them be a reminder that your labor is not in vain.

Lord, You see our weariness and doubts. Renew our strength and remind us why we started. Help us find joy in the small moments, set healthy boundaries, and trust that our work matters. Surround us with encouragement and the support we need to keep going. May we serve with love, knowing we are ultimately working for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Thank you! God has blessed me with a peaceful season this school year, but I am going to keep your devotional as reference for when the stormy seasons come.

  2. This is very timely for this part of the year. My high school students and I are all done and ready to quit together, lol! We will make it, thanks for the reminders!
