Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11 NKJV
So you’re going over your mental checklist before sprinting out the door for work. It may go something like this:
- keys—check
- lunch bag—check
- coffee—check
- bag/purse—check
- graded papers—check
Something is missing. Are you completely dressed? Did you remember to put on the whole armor of God?
God provides us with this armor because we are in a daily spiritual battle, which is explained in Ephesians 6:12. His armor offers us protection and a weapon to fight whatever may come against us. That weapon according to Ephesians 6:17 is the sword of the Spirit, also known as the Word of God. The sword of the Spirit is a very important part of the armor of God because without it, we can only block what the enemy is throwing at us as described in Ephesians 6:16. But with the sword of the Spirit, we can cut it off.
Jesus set an example for us when He used the sword of the Spirit at the end of His 40-day fast. Satan tried to entice Jesus multiple times, but each time Jesus boldly and firmly stated, “It is written.” Jesus was fully-dressed and therefore, defeated the enemy with the Word of God. So, if you want to be prepared for your day, make sure you are fully dressed with the whole armor of God.
My gracious, loving Lord, thank you for being who You are. Thank you for Your protection. Thank you for equipping me with everything that I need. In Jesus’s name, amen.
