TRUSTING GOD WITH OUR BURDENS

Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders—He’ll carry your load, He’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin. Psalm 55:22, MSG

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:30, NIV

Every school year brings its share of burdens.

Some come from home—illness, the loss of loved ones, aging parents, marriage struggles, or the challenges of raising children. Others meet us at school—job changes, difficult relationships with parents or coworkers, challenging students, new mandates, or more responsibilities with fewer resources and less time.

The question is not whether we will face burdens. The question is what we do with them.

Scripture reminds us that we were never meant to carry these burdens alone. God invites us to place them on His shoulders. When we try to carry everything ourselves, the weight eventually shows up in our attitudes, our relationships, and our work.

I learned this lesson the hard way.

At one point in my career, the school district where I worked implemented policies that deeply concerned me. I believed they were harming both students and educators. Instead of bringing my frustrations honestly before the Lord and asking Him how to respond, I carried the burden myself. Day after day, the weight of that situation built inside me.

Over time, that burden began to shape my heart. Frustration turned into anger. Concern turned into resentment. The pressure affected my patience, my peace, and eventually my ability to stay in that position. Years later, I had to come before the Lord in repentance and acknowledge that I had tried to carry something that was never mine to hold.

God never asked us to carry the weight of the world. That responsibility already rests on His shoulders.

Our role is not to control outcomes. Our role is to seek Him, listen for His guidance, and trust Him to achieve His perfect will.

As this school year unfolds, burdens will come. When they do, we have a choice. We can hold tightly to them, allowing them to weigh down our hearts, or we can place them in God’s hands and trust Him to carry what we cannot.

What burdens are you carrying right now that you need to give to God?

Jesus, remind us that we were never meant to carry burdens on our own. When challenges come at home or at school, help us bring them to You first. Give us wisdom to seek Your guidance, humility to trust Your leadership, and peace to release what we cannot control. Thank You for carrying what we cannot. Amen.
