TRADING BURDENS FOR REST

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29, NLT

What a comfort it is to know that we don’t have to put on a mask with Jesus. We don’t need to pretend to be stronger, better, or more put-together than we are. His love is so deep and complete that He invites us to come just as we are. Messy, weary, imperfect.

Jesus humbled Himself, even to the point of dying in our place because of our sin. He doesn’t expect us to rely on ourselves or carry the weight of life alone. In fact, He asks us to lay aside our self-reliance and let Him carry us.

Whatever you feel gives you worth—accomplishments, reputation, status—He lovingly asks you to surrender it. Not because those things don’t matter, but because He wants to take your burdens, worries, and fears and, in return, give you rest for your soul.

Today, let go. Place everything in His hands. Trust Him with what’s troubling your heart and wait on His perfect timing and perfect solutions. And in that surrender, breathe deep and receive His peace.

Dear Lord, with grateful hearts we come before You at the start of this day, trusting in Your guidance. Forgive us where we’ve fallen short, and help us walk in Your peace. Thank You for Your love, Your rest, and Your presence. Amen.

  1. Thank you for this devotional. It’s hard to know which voice to listen to in our world today, particularly when so many people claim to be right. Reading this message showed me that when you come to Jesus and listen to his words first, you receive peace to walk in his way.
