Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14, NIV
As a new school year begins, educators often search for the key to a successful year—better plans, stronger systems, smoother routines. But what if the foundation for a joyful and resilient year isn’t found in any of those things? What if it begins with a heart that is already full?
We live in a world that rarely feels satisfied. There is always more to do, more to fix, more to improve. As educators, that drive can feel even stronger. We want to meet every need, reach every student, and end each day knowing we made a difference. But if we’re honest, when our satisfaction depends on how the day goes, joy becomes fragile. One hard class, one difficult conversation, one unexpected disruption—and it’s gone.
Scripture offers us a different starting point. Moses prayed, “Satisfy us in the morning…”—not at the end of a perfect day, but at the very beginning. Before the lessons, emails, and challenges. Why? Because only God’s unfailing love can truly fill what we carry into the day.
When we start empty, we spend the day striving to be filled. When we start full, we’re free to give. The psalmist echoes this truth: “Earth has nothing I desire besides you… God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:25–26). That kind of satisfaction isn’t tied to outcomes or recognition. It’s rooted in relationship.
And it’s a daily choice.
Each morning, we are invited to come to God and be filled again—to let His love steady our hearts before the demands of the day begin. This isn’t passive. It’s intentional. It’s the quiet surrender that says, “Lord, You are enough for me today.” When that truth settles deep in us, something shifts.
Joy is no longer dependent on circumstances.
Peace is no longer fragile.
Patience flows more freely.
The Fruit of the Spirit begins to show up—not because we are trying harder, but because we are already filled. Yes, this school year will have its ups and downs. Some days will feel like a smooth ride; others may feel like a roller coaster. But when your heart begins the day satisfied in God’s love, you can face it all with a steady, quiet joy.
As you step into this new year, settle this truth in your heart: God’s love is enough to satisfy you—today and every day. Start there. Return there. Let it overflow into every classroom moment.
Lord, satisfy my heart with Your unfailing love each morning. Help me not to look to circumstances, success, or approval to fill me, but to rest fully in You. As I begin this school year, anchor my joy in Your presence. Let Your love overflow through me in patience, kindness, and peace. No matter what each day brings, remind me that You are enough. Amen.

I am often (if not always) caught up in the data-driven, nitty-gritty of teaching that we are told makes us “good teachers.” Of course I want to be good at my job, helpful to my students—but what if “good” teacher isn’t all I should strive for? How about “loving” teacher? “Joyful” teacher?
Remembering to begin my day filled so I might overflow is a beautiful truth to hold onto. Quiet, enduring joy isn’t built on test scores. It’s built around relationship.
Wow Jackie, thank you for pointing to solid truth on what this walk with Jesus should look like! You are a blessing to us.
