Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us. 1 Peter, 2:12, NIV
I saw her in the supermarket aisle. She was smartly dressed with comfortable shoes, looking intelligent, and quickly collecting her groceries. I wondered if she might be a teacher, too. It wasn’t until I pulled up my cart behind her in the check-out line that I knew for sure. There on her backside was the line of chalk. I knew it! No one but a teacher would have that mark!
Christians should have tell-tale marks too.Â
Let’s ask ourselves today, Do I have identifying marks that reveal a family likeness to Christ? Do people recognize Christ by the purity of my speech, my respectful treatment of my students, my submission to authority, or my refraining from gossip? Am I compassionate and caring? Am I living a holy life?
By law, we may be prohibited from preaching Christ in our public schools, but there is no law anywhere, even in a public school, against love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control!
Lord, please help me to allow the fruit of the Spirit to shine through me today. Grant me the willingness to love even those who are unlovable. Amen.
