Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7, NIV
We’re educators. We know how to teach, train, use best practices and pedagogy, and yet, sometimes we are the ones who miss the simplest lessons.
This happened to me recently.
I follow a Christian mom on social media who does daily prayers with her followers. Last week, the daily prayer included a statement about surrendering our day to God. I was struck! How many times have I sung I Surrender All during church? How many times has surrender to the Lord’s will been the topic of a devotional, sermon, or talk that I’ve listened to? But when have I taken the time to stop and consider what it means to truly surrender my day to God?
God is good, even when I am slow on the uptake. After praying about surrender, I felt convicted to make it a daily practice. Now, I surrender my day each morning and ask for the Holy Spirit’s direction. God has been abundantly faithful as I go about teaching my students this term, raising my three girls, being a wife, keeping the home, and all the other things that I am called to in this life. He has beautifully directed my days, and I trust He will do the same for you.
Father in Heaven, hallowed is Your name. I surrender this day to You. Guide my steps. May the Holy Spirit be a vibrant part of my life, giving me the words to speak and the wisdom to act this day and every day. Please remind me to surrender to You daily and to trust in the work of the Spirit. Thank You for hearing my prayers. Amen.

Thank you for this reminder. I actually have a daily alarm on my phone titled Did you pray for your students that goes off 30 minutes before the students arrive. When I pray I have a smoother day, when I don’t I have a reminder from the Holy Spirit that I forgot to start my day in prayer.
Love this idea, Tim! Thanks for sharing!
