Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve. I Peter 5:2, NIV
A new school year brings fresh bulletin boards, supplies, room setups, and a new flock of students to shepherd. Just like a shepherd cares for their sheep, we’re called to watch over our students: to guide, protect, and meet their needs, especially those who feel lost or left behind.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 18:14, “Your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.”
Educators, keep a watchful eye this year for the “lost sheep” in your classrooms. God may be calling you to seek them out and bring them back to the fold.
If you’re part of a teachers’ prayer group, that’s a flock too. How can you support one another so no one feels unseen, isolated, or overwhelmed?
In our daily spaces—classrooms, hallways, online, meetings, lunchrooms, or offices—how can we live out the role of a shepherd?
Oh Lord, You have given us a big job to do here, and we need Your big help today. Thank You for shepherding us and leading us even as we, by Your grace, shepherd our students. Amen.
