He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—but my ears you have opened—burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40: 3-8, NIV

Looking back over my life, I am amazed by the countless ways God has been at work in my family and my career. At the time, I often couldn’t see what He was doing. There were seasons of uncertainty, disappointment, and waiting that left me questioning His plan. But with the perspective of time, I can see His fingerprints all along the way. He was faithfully guiding, providing, and shaping my life—even when I didn’t recognize it.

Psalm 40 reminds us that God’s faithfulness should fill our hearts with praise and deepen our trust in Him. As we remember what He has done, our confidence grows that He will continue to lead us. That trust also changes our response. Instead of insisting on our own plans, we can echo David’s words: “I desire to do your will, my God.”

Surrendering to God’s will doesn’t mean life will always be easy or unfold according to our expectations. It does mean we can trust that His plans are always wiser, His presence is always with us, and His purposes are always good. As we place our lives in His hands, He continues to accomplish His work in and through us.

All-knowing Father in Heaven, You have known everything about me even before I was born. I am made in the image of You, Lord. Help me to follow Your path, even if I do not understand where it is leading me. Help me to loosen my grip of control over my life. Let me let go and have faith that You are in control, and through my actions, I can help further Your Kingdom. Write Your laws within our hearts this week, Lord. In all of this, I ask in Your name. Amen.
