Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV
In good times and in bad—this is a vow many of us have spoken in marriage, and it’s also a reflection of God’s eternal vow to us. He has promised never to leave or forsake us, and to love us through every season of life. Whether we are standing on a mountaintop of joy or walking through a valley of hardship, His presence remains constant, and His grace remains sufficient.
The Apostle Paul reminds us in today’s verse that thankfulness is not optional or seasonal. It is the will of God for those who belong to Christ. Gratitude isn’t only for moments when everything is going well; it is a spiritual posture we are called to maintain in all circumstances. Why? Because we know the One who holds all things together. We know that our future is secure. We know that even our trials are being used for our good and His glory.
Thankfulness doesn’t mean pretending everything is perfect—it means recognizing that God is still good, even when life isn’t. It means praising Him not just for what He gives, but for who He is. When we choose gratitude, we shift our perspective. Our hearts become softer, our faith stronger, and our joy more resilient.
So today, whether you’re laughing, weeping, striving, or resting, I encourage you to rejoice. Thank Him. Not because everything is easy, but because you are not alone. You belong to Jesus. That truth alone is enough to fuel a lifetime of thanksgiving.
Dear Lord, I am grateful for Your love and provision. Help me to make it my priority to read Your Word and to spend time with You. You are the best company. Amen.
