…love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him. Deuteronomy 30:20, NIV
I’ve been teaching computers in an elementary school for seven years now. And if you know anything about kindergarten students, you know they are very excited to get started on the computer. They come in with their brand-new headphones and neatly laminated login cards. They are pumped up and ready to go—even the ones who are using a mouse for the very first time and have no idea why the screen isn’t responding to touch!
After lots of practice logging in, I still have students who raise their hands and say, “I can’t hear anything.”
They have everything they need, but there’s still no sound. I look down, smile, and gently say, “I think it would work better if you plugged your headphones in.”
This happens all the time with kids of all ages. And every time, it reminds me of something in my own walk with Christ…I can have the best Bible, go to church every week, and even be part of a Bible study. But if I don’t take the time to plug in to God—if I’m not listening for His voice—I’ll miss what He’s saying.
Today, I encourage you to find a quiet moment—maybe in your classroom before or after school, at home, or even sitting in your car—to plug in to God… and then, listen.
God, I pray that You would lead me in every step I take. When I’m struggling to find You, help me hear Your voice in the quiet moments. Amen.
