So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 2 Corinthians 5:9, NIV
As educators, we are accustomed to setting goals. We establish goals for our classrooms, students, and ourselves. In today’s Scripture, Paul reminds us of the most important goal of all: to please God.
As you look ahead to the months before you, what goals are you setting? More importantly, how will you seek to please God in the days ahead? Take a moment to consider the past few weeks. What have you done that honored Him? Is there something He has placed on your heart that you have been putting off? Is there a student or coworker who needs a little extra love, understanding, grace, or patience?
Today, I encourage you to choose one intentional way you can seek to please God and share it with a friend who can encourage you and hold you accountable. Then, sometime this week, set aside a few quiet moments to write down some goals for the school year. Keep them somewhere you will see them from time to time—in your planner, on your desk, or tucked inside a drawer.
But as you make your plans, invite God into the process. Ask Him to reveal the goals He has for you. Then, with His help, faithfully take the next step of obedience.
Lord, we set our hearts on pleasing You above all else. Guide our plans, shape our priorities, and help us live each day for You. Amen.
