Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21, NIV
Twenty-five years have passed since September 11, 2001, yet the events of that day have not been forgotten. We remember the lives that were lost, the families and communities forever changed, and the countless people who continue to carry the effects of that tragedy.
As we remember, we can turn to the Lord in prayer. We can ask Him how we might honor those who lost their lives by serving others, extending compassion, and choosing good in the face of evil. We can pray for those who are still hurting, for peace among our neighbors and within our nation, and for a world in need of healing. Most of all, we can invite the Holy Spirit to guide our words, actions, and relationships.
We may not be able to erase the pain of 9/11, but we can choose how we respond to it. Scripture reminds us that evil does not have the final word. As followers of Christ, we are called to overcome evil with good.
Dear God, we remember the lives lost and the pain caused by the events of September 11, 2001. We know we cannot erase the suffering, but we trust in Your goodness and faithfulness. Help us to humble ourselves and turn to You in prayer. Show us how to honor those we remember by loving our neighbors, serving others, pursuing peace, and choosing good over evil. May Your Spirit guide us today and in the days to come. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
