The Lord protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side. The sun will not strike you by day or the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all harm; He will protect your life. The Lord will protect your coming and going both now and forever. Psalm 121:5–8, CSB
In these verses, we are reminded again and again that God protects us. Four times the psalm repeats His protection, and once it calls Him our shelter. Repetition in Scripture matters because it slows us down and helps us see what God wants us to remember most: we are never alone.
In the middle of busy classroom routines, lesson plans, and interruptions, it is easy to forget that truth. But God stands beside us every minute of the day, guarding our hearts, calming our minds, and caring for our souls. Day and night, He is our shelter.
Then we look at the students in front of us.
During the school day, we become their protectors. We comfort, guide, and care for them. We would do anything to keep them safe. God has entrusted these young lives to us not just to teach them, but to love them well while they are in our care.
Safety practices such as fire drills and tornado drills are routine. But intruder drills bring a different weight. Walking students through something so frightening can feel overwhelming. We wish they never had to think about those possibilities.
Yet Psalm 121 reminds us where our ultimate security rests. While we faithfully watch over our students, God watches over all of us. We prepare responsibly, but we trust completely. His protection reaches further than ours ever could.
Dear Lord, thank You for the wonderful students You have placed in my life. Thank You for allowing me to care for them as You care for me. Help me be a light in my classroom and show Your love in everything I do. Please watch over our school and our students, and protect us always from harm. Amen.
