For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10, ESV
A friend recently shared with me that she had to give up a beloved job while she waits to have back surgery. I prayed for her, and as soon as I finished the prayer, I sensed the Holy Spirit urging me to say, “Look at what God has already given you. He gave you that job you loved, and you weren’t expecting it. Now, you are doing the right thing by taking care of your health. God loves you and already has another good job ready for you in His time.”
How often do we cling to current jobs, relationships, and other things, while forgetting the good works God has prepared for our futures? Sometimes, God calls us to let go of something so that He can lead us to the next good work that He’s prepared for us. When God closes the door on something, it doesn’t mean that’s the end of the story. Remember, He who created you will be faithful to complete His good work in you.
Educators, I encourage you to hang on to Him, as you let go of whatever “thing” in your life you’re needlessly clinging to. Answer His call when He leads you to new beginnings. It might not happen at the beginning of this calendar year. But be alert, for He is working in your life every day.
Dear Lord, thank You for planning my life before I was even born. Thank You for loving me and preparing good works for me to do. Help me pay attention to You and to the voice of the Holy Spirit. May I walk in Your good ways all my life, heeding Your call, obeying Your word, and letting go when You ask me to. Grant me the wisdom to know what You are calling me to do. May I trust You with new beginnings and with times of quiet, when I am not sure of the next step. May I never stop looking to You. Amen.
