He must become greater; I must become less. John 3:30, NIV

Throughout Scripture, we see a pattern—doing less often leads to greater victory when God is in control.

Joshua could have stormed Jericho with force, but God had a different plan: march, blow trumpets, and shout. No siege ramps, no battle, just obedience. The walls fell.

Less was more.

Gideon gathered over 20,000 men to defend Israel. But God told him to send all but 300 home. With just torches and trumpets, they surrounded the enemy, and God delivered victory.

Less was more.

Peter, in an act of protection, drew his sword and cut off a soldier’s ear. Jesus said, “Put away your sword,” and healed the man.

Less was more.

A family gave up their picnic lunch one day. Jesus used it to feed over 5,000 people.

Less was more.

John the Baptist said, “He must become greater; I must become less.”

And that’s the key for us, too, especially in today’s world of education.

God is not asking us to serve more in our own strength. He’s calling us to serve Him—to obey, trust, and let go of the belief that more effort always equals more success.

He cries out, “Seek me first and I will add all things unto you, such as high academic achievement.” He also says, “Don’t believe that just by doing more you are going to get more. I will give you the courage it takes to do less. Obey me and watch what I will do.”

Will you trust Him to do more as you surrender more?

Lord, help us to decrease, and may You increase in us in our professional lives. Amen.
