IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” Malachai 3:10, NIV

Last night, I went to a Passover seder held at my church. Learning about the holiday’s traditions and deep symbolism was fascinating and such a blessing! But one thing that really stuck with me was learning about the Hebrew word “dayenu,” which translates to “It would have been enough.” Throughout the seder, either through song or reading, one person recounts the many ways that God blessed the Israelites, with everyone else responding “dayenu” after each miracle.

This touched me as I thought over my own life and all its hills, valleys, and miracles. If you stop for a moment and engage in this reflection on your own, you will find very quickly that the way your Father in Heaven blesses you is lavish, to say the least! Even if He had only done ONE miracle in my life…dayenu. But the longer I live, the more I lose count of all the ways He’s blessed me!

Today, let’s turn our focus from the stormy seas around us to the many, many times when He has indeed upheld us with His righteous right hand. Odds are, you will have a long list of ways God has worked in your life…but even if you only have ONE…dayenu.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the lavish way You love us. We don’t deserve it, but Your grace and mercy are unending. Help us today not to grumble about our present circumstances but to remember all those times that You’ve been with us in the desert, sustaining our very lives. Thank You, Jesus, for Your sacrifice and love for us. We love You. Amen.
