So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27, NIV
I don’t know about you, but reading this verse stops me dead in my tracks…I am created in the image of God Himself.
Since this is true, why do I spend so much time and effort trying to create an alternate image that I want to portray to the world? How is resembling the King of the universe somehow not enough in my mind? What is it that makes me think I need to look or act like something or someone else?
Furthermore, as His image-bearer, my biggest concern should not be: How do people see me?
Instead, I can be more concerned with questions like: Do people see God when they look at me? Am I portraying an accurate reflection of Him to the world? Am I kind? Am I loving? Do I have compassion for the lost and hurting?
Father, help me to embrace my purpose as Your image-bearer. And help me to be an accurate reflection of Your image to those around me. Amen.

Thank you for reminding me that I bear the image of God and challenging me to reflect His characteristics. It’s so easy to forget who we are created to be as we walk through the difficulties of this world.
