But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8, NIV
Do you have times when you feel unworthy of love? When your flaws, failures, and sins seem too great for anyone, let alone God, to look past? I think if we are honest, we have all felt this way at some point.
If you are feeling that way today, I want to remind you that God doesn’t wait for us to clean ourselves up or prove our worth. He loves us first, right in the middle of our messes.
God’s love is not reactive; it’s proactive. While we were still sinners, turning away, rebelling, and lost, Christ died for us. This wasn’t a love born from our performance or goodness. It was born from God’s character…love that gives, sacrifices, and redeems.
This kind of love is hard to grasp in a world where affection is often conditional. But the cross is evidence that God’s love is not conditional. Jesus didn’t come for the righteous; He came for the broken, weak, and undeserving. And that includes every one of us.
So today, if you feel distant from God, weighed down by shame, or unsure if you’re “good enough” to approach Him, remember this: You don’t have to be perfect to be loved. God loves you unconditionally. You can simply rest in His perfect love.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me before I even knew You. Thank You for sending Jesus to die for me, not when I had it all together, but when I was still lost in sin. Help me live in the freedom of that love and extend it to others, not based on what they’ve done, but on who You are. Amen.
