But You, O Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head high. Psalm 3:3, NLT
David wrote Psalm 3 during an extremely uncertain and painful time in his life. Yet even in the midst of the danger and fear, David didn’t let his circumstances define his confidence. He remembered who God is: a shield around him, his glory, and the lifter of his head.
As educators, we often stand on the frontlines academically, emotionally, and spiritually. We carry the weight of our students’ needs, the expectations of our schools, and our own silent struggles. But God promises to surround us like a shield. He protects, strengthens, and lifts us when we feel the pressure and anxiety.
I love the way the phrase “the One who lifts my head” paints the image of a loving Father gently lifting the chin of a discouraged child, saying, “Look up. I’m here. You’re not alone.”Â
What a gift to be reminded that our confidence doesn’t come from our performance or our control over circumstances, but from the presence of God.
This week, as you face the demands of each day, remember: When you are weary, He is the One who gently lifts your head.
Lord, You see every anxious thought and every moment of uncertainty I carry. Thank You for being my shield. Remind me that my strength doesn’t come from having all the answers, but from knowing You go before me. Lift my head today. Help me walk into my classroom with the assurance that You are with me, surrounding me in love and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
