GROWING IN HARD PLACES

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:5, NLT

As I walked out to my garage the other day, I noticed a plant growing through a crack on the garage floor. I thought, How did this plant survive, much less have leaves and color? And how did it find the only crack in our entire garage floor?

It got me thinking about life. How often are things growing even when I feel like I am surrounded by “darkness?” How many times have wisdom and empathy sprouted from the most tragic experiences?

I had to stop and remind myself that even in darkness, there is life. Growth is inevitable. And sometimes, I just need to trust the process.

Friends, I am learning that this is what faith looks like—trusting that even when there seems to be no light, new life is sprouting in our classrooms…trusting that the seeds we are sewing are working within us and within our students and may someday turn into a beautiful plant…trusting that who God created us to be is enough…trusting that through Him, we are able to bring light and life to those around us.

Jesus, help us trust that things are sprouting in our classrooms even when we are unsure. Give us strength, allowing Your light to shine in the darkness. Help us to show up every day with the faith that You are creating beautiful light in a place that seems so very dark.
