EMBRACING NEW THINGS

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19, NIV

Over the summer, our school went through a lot of transition. Some of our beloved professors retired, and we saw quite a few staff and position changes. Naturally, we all felt a little anxious about welcoming the new people and/or adjusting to different responsibilities. Change can feel a bit unsettling, right?

At a recent staff meeting, our associate dean shared the above verse from Isaiah with us. When she read it, I took some time to really reflect on it. As I recited the words, God quickly shifted my perspective from worry to a sense of excitement. I began to think, What new and wonderful things is God going to do at our school? He loves us and always has a plan for our good.

At that moment, I felt a sense of peace settle in the midst of all the change.

Does change ever make you uneasy? If so, I want you to know that we can always count on God to be with us through every change, working things out for our good. It’s okay to cherish the past, but let’s not miss the new thing God is doing right now.

Today, let’s trust in His plan, knowing that He is always making a way—even when we can’t see it yet.

Lord, thank you for always having a plan. I confess my worries about changes in my life. Help me to keep my eyes on You and Your truths during scary times. Fill me with Your Word and let my mouth speak Your truth! Thank you for doing a new thing at work and in my life. Amen.

  1. Thank you for writing this devotional. I often view things from a state of worry, and it affects much of what I do. I love that when you shift the mind to look at the new things God is doing, it changes how you think about things. Change can be challenging. shifting from the familiar to the unfamiliar. some embrace change, some warm upto it and some may even oppose it. Whatever position you stand from knowing God will make a way through is such a comfort and brings peace to the hearts and minds of even the biggest of worriers.
