A BEAUTIFUL DAY

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24, KJV

If we’re being honest, most of us have experienced the dreaded “Monday blues.” I’ve certainly had my share of them. I’ve spent more than a few Sundays anticipating everything that might happen in my classroom when Monday morning arrived.

There is certainly no shortage of advice for overcoming the Monday blues. We’re encouraged to prepare for the week, manage our time, organize our priorities, and tackle our to-do lists. All of these things can be helpful, but what if we are overlooking something more important: our perspective.

When we allow ourselves to dread Mondays, we can forget that every day is a gift from God—a day He has made and a day in which He has given us opportunities to serve Him.

We all know that educators face plenty of difficult circumstances. Heartbreak, loneliness, family concerns, academic challenges, and difficult relationships can weigh heavily on our hearts. Even the ordinary demands of school life—conferences, meetings, after-school activities, paperwork, and countless responsibilities—can leave us exhausted before the day is over.

Psalm 118:24 doesn’t tell us to pretend those things aren’t difficult. Instead, it reminds us where our joy can be found.

We rejoice in the Lord and in the day He has given us. We rejoice because we have another day to love, serve, and encourage the students He has placed in our classrooms. We rejoice because His grace is sufficient for whatever the day brings. We rejoice because His mercy is new every morning. And we rejoice because, no matter what awaits us, He promises never to leave us.

God never promised that Mondays would be easy. But He has promised to be with us through every one of them.

Together, let’s embrace Monday—and every day—with confidence in the One who made it. Our students are depending on us.

Lord, thank You for a beautiful day. When I am tempted to be brought low by its woes, help me to find joy in Your divine beauty of the day and rejoice. Amen.
