Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV
Teaching is rarely quiet. But when those rare moments come—like during silent work time or state testing—how do you use them? Let’s face it, sitting idly while keeping an eye on your class can be pretty boring. But what if that stillness was more than just a waiting game?
In those quiet spaces, you can pray. As you walk the room, watching over your students, take a moment to lift up each one to the Lord. Pray for their understanding, peace, and futures. Ask God for insight into their struggles and guidance about how you can meet their needs.
Let God soften your heart—even toward the students who challenge you the most. And as you pray, listen. Listen for His encouragement, His wisdom, and His love for you as an educator. These moments of connection with Him can transform not only your day, but also the atmosphere in your classroom.
There’s no rule against silent prayer in your heart as you work. So make the most of the stillness. Use that time to reconnect with the One who placed you in this sacred calling.
Lord, thank You for the privilege of prayer, a gift we too often overlook. Help us to seize quiet moments to come to You, to lift up our students, and to rest in Your presence. Refresh our hearts and minds, and guide us as we teach. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

I have state testing in April. Thank you for this reminder to pray for each child as I watch over them for 7 hours.
It’s always been the best way to pass the time for me! I’ve had a lot of sweet moments with the Lord during testing!
