He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” Exodus 15:26, NIV
Sometimes, school can feel like a spiritual desert. As educators, we often feel overwhelmed by everything we have to deal with on a daily basis: parents complaining, kids disobeying, colleagues fighting, lack of administrative support, state testing, poverty, bullying…the list goes on and on.
If we are not careful, we can slip into a place of discontentment. A place where we forget God has positioned us “there” for a specific reason. Instead of seeing our calling as a “promised land,” we, like the Israelites after they left Egypt, begin to see it as a dry, desolate desert.
The Israelites had already seen the mighty hand of God deliver them from the grips of Pharaoh, enjoyed a cloud of protection by day and a pillar of fire by night, and traveled through the desert of Shur where through Moses, God turned the bitter waters into good waters. Yet, with each new challenge, they forgot that God had and would continue to provide for them “there” as he had always done.
Christian educators, I want to remind you today that like the Israelites, if we are “there” in the place where God has called us, His provision will follow.
Father, thank you for calling us to do Your work and for placing us “there.” Please help us to recognize Your positioning in our lives. Give us the ability to find joy and peace where You have called us. Amen
