No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13, ESV
Yesterday’s devotional was about asking God for help and keeping our focus on Him when things feel like they are more than we can handle. Today, I want to talk a little more about some practical things we can do to help us stay focused on God and grow closer to Him when enduring difficult times. The following are some ways I have found to be helpful:
- Instead of vegging in front of the TV after a stressful day or situation, spend some time talking about it with God through prayer or journaling.
- When you feel like you are close to losing your cool with a student, co-worker, or family member, try pausing to repeat a favorite Scripture in your head.
- I like to pray through the Psalms during particularly difficult seasons. God is always faithful to comfort me.
God, forgive me. Sometimes I forget to look to You in times of need. Thank you that I can look to You and You are the one who my help comes from. I praise You because You are the Maker of Heaven and Earth. You are everywhere, all the time. You don’t sleep. You watch over me so that I may lay down my worries and sleep at night. Thank you! Please keep me from evil. Undo the things in this life that were made crooked by the curse. My life is Yours. May I glorify You in all I do, Amen.
