LOVE GOD, LOVE OTHERS

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31

Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. It sounds so simple, but yet seems so impossible at times. And every time I read this passage, it generates so many questions in my mind…

How do I love God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength?
How do I love others as I love myself?
Are the two commands really intertwined?

Jesus offers an answer to these questions in Matthew 25: 31-46 when he says that whatever we do to love others, we do to Him. In other words, when we love others, we are loving God.

Again, this isn’t easy to do. So, what are some practical ways we can start loving others today?

  1. Pray for and with others.
  2. Truly listen to the other person and the Holy Spirit.
  3. Ask God to show you the unmet needs of those around you and use you to help them.

Heavenly Father, you are love! You are patient and kind. Your love never fails and endures forever! Fill me with your love for others, especially those close to me. Open my eyes to see practical ways to show your love to them today. May You be glorified in all I do today. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray, Amen.
