IMAGE-BEARERS

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

I don’t know about you, but this verse stops me dead in my tracks…I am created in the image of God Himself.

Since this is true, why do I spend so much time and effort trying to create an alternate image that I want to portray to the world? How is resembling the King of the universe somehow not enough in my mind? What is it that makes me think I need to look or act like something or someone else?

Furthermore, as His image-bearer, my biggest concern should not be: How do people see me?

Instead, I can be more concerned with questions like: Do people see God when they look at me? Am I portraying an accurate reflection of Him to the world? Am I kind? Am I loving? Do I have compassion for the lost and hurting?

Father, help me to embrace my purpose as Your image-bearer. And help me to be an accurate reflection of Your image to those around me.
