DECISIONS, DECISIONS

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Col. 3:12, NIV

It wasn’t that I didn’t have anything to wear; it’s just that I couldn’t find the right outfit. It was an ordinary day of school, so I don’t know why I was bothering to put on, take off, and try something else until I finally was satisfied.

Dressing properly was important to me and forgive me if I’m meddling, but I think teachers should make an effort to look neat and professional. In my opinion, they and others hold the teaching profession in higher regard if they dress the part.

While I do believe that all the details of this world concern God, Scripture says that He is most concerned with our hearts. If I had not spent time before Him that morning getting His perspective and hearing His voice through His word, He would not have been pleased regardless of what I wore. If my outfit didn’t include the whole armor of God, I was going to be beaten up by the Enemy. If I wasn’t clothed in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, what business did I have even going to school?

Yes, be mindful of what you wear because you are representing Christ. But more importantly, make sure you spend time with God getting your heart ready for the day. He knows exactly the outfit you will need, and He will fit you properly with His armor and His Spirit.

Please lead us today, Lord, in the way we think. We need Your wisdom as we decide what to wear physically and spiritually.

  1. Thank you, Shirley! I needed reminding that I must put on God’s armor and seek Him to bear fruit even more than I need to think about my attire. We have our “school spirit” wear. I have “Holy Spirit” wear.
