California Bulletin - What CTA Dues Are Paying For This November

Dear California members,

Of course, I know the vast majority of you are no longer members of the CTA, and likely joined Christian Educators at least in part to stop your membership dues from funding causes that violate your Biblical values.

Once again, the CTA is confirming your decision in a way that breaks my heart, and maybe your colleagues need to hear about it too.

On November 6–8, 2026, the CTA will host its official LGBTQ+ Issues Conference at the SFO Marriott Waterfront in Burlingame. The published agenda includes a Friday-night welcome reception with a drag show, and the Sunday closing session lists Sister Roma as the keynote speaker. CTA’s own conference page introduces him as one of the most visible and longtime members of San Francisco’s Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and notes that he emcees the “world-famous Hunky Jesus Contest.”

That is not a rumor on social media. It is CTA’s own program.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence describe themselves as a charity and protest order that uses “humor and irreverent wit.” They also mockingly dress as Catholic nuns, invert Jesus’ words into the motto “Go and sin some more,” and stage Easter parody events. At one such event in 2023, they even used a large wooden cross in a striptease/pole-dance routine.

That is not inclusion.

It is a union choosing to platform an effort to turn holy things into a joke, and asking members of every faith to pay for it.

Membership dues fund the CTA LGBTQ+ Issues Conference event. In fact, many CTA members can have both conference fees and travel expenses paid entirely by the CTA.

This is not about caring for our students. As Christian educators, we seek to love them all, including (sometimes especially) those experiencing sexual and identity confusion.

If you have already left the CTA, you know the rest of the picture. Union dues do not stay local. About 80% of every member’s dues go to the state and national unions, funding conferences, political spending, and public campaigns. And leaving CTA does not affect your contract, seniority, or district-provided health benefits.

I still vividly remember the moment when the CTA did something so egregious with my union dues that my conscience cut through all the other objections to leaving. I know many of you had a similar moment.

This may be that moment for a friend or colleague. Encourage them to visit christianeducators.org/unions, where they will find a simple opt-out process and learn more about where their union dues are spent. We would love to serve them as a member of Christian Educators, providing better coverage for much less, and all from a Biblical worldview.

And let me close by thanking you for your membership in CE, which helps advance Biblical values in our schools every day. We are so grateful for you!

Blessings,

David
