“But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:14, NLT
Not long ago, I was working outdoors in an extremely hot, dry place. I was so focused on the project in front of me that I didn’t notice the warning signs until they became impossible to ignore—dizziness, fatigue, and an inability to concentrate. That’s when it hit me: I hadn’t taken a single drink of water for hours, even though I had been sweating in 110-degree heat.
I stopped what I was doing, found a cooler, and drank an entire bottle of water without pausing. My body was desperate for refreshment. As I stood there, grateful for that cool water, I couldn’t help but think how much easier it would have been if the refreshment I needed had been flowing within me all along.
Our souls experience thirst in much the same way. We can become so busy with the work before us that we forget to pause and be refreshed. But unlike physical water, which we must stop and seek out, Jesus offers us something far greater. When we receive His Holy Spirit, we carry within us a continual, living spring of refreshment and strength. We don’t have to step away from our calling to find renewal elsewhere. God’s Spirit is already present, bubbling up within us, sustaining us as we carry out the tasks He has placed before us.
I am grateful today, Lord, that You are always with me and will give me strength for the job and journey You have put before me. Amen.
