ENEMIES

“For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4, NIV

A few years ago, my husband’s job led us to move to a new city, one three hours away from where I had taught for the last 22 years. I was filled with fear and uncertainty. The voices in my head—the “enemies” of doubt—told me, You’re not good enough to get another job. What makes you think you can walk into a new school and teach Kindergarten? Who would even want to hire you?

I cried. I prayed. I poured my heart out to God. And then, I began speaking truth over myself—God’s truth. I reminded myself of my worth. I chose to believe that He was fighting for me.

And then, my very first interview? I got the job! God gave me the victory.

When we think of “enemies,” we often picture people or conflict. But in our daily lives, our enemies can look very different. They might be the overwhelming stress of meeting deadlines. The anxiety we feel when our children face another diagnostic test. The pressure of squeezing in yet another meeting during our planning time. Or the quiet, persistent voice of self-doubt whispering, You’re not enough.

But here’s the truth: God is fighting for us. Every fear, stressor, and insecurity—we don’t face them alone. He goes before us. He stands beside us. He gives us the victory.

Dear Jesus, I pray right now over this amazing educator. I pray that You give them the victory over any enemy they may be facing right now. Take away any fear and help this educator know their worth. I ask that You give all of us comfort, peace, and strength to take on this ministry of teaching. In Your name I pray. Amen.

  1. Eva,
Praise God! The Spirit gave me Deuteronomy 21:1-4 this morning for my devotional. Oh, how our Lord blows my mind every time He confirms His desires for me. Thank you for this timely reminder. May others be blessed by your obedience to share your testimony.

  2. “Praise GOD”‼️🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏾💃🏾🔥🔥🔥💫 Satan is defeated & VICTORY is ours ‼️ AMEN 🙏🏽 * Mrs. Eva R. Let GOD continue to use you as a vessel & have NO fear. ♥️✨

  3. Thank you for writing down that prayer. I am about to return to work after a medical leave. My return will actually be earlier than expected, yet I have been a little on edge about it. Today’s devotion was quite helpful.

Ironically, I saw that you are in TN. My husband and I are seriously considering a move there to prepare for retirement (I was born in East TN) as we are done with deep snow and subzero temperatures. I would love some insight about teaching there.

    1. I hope you had a great day after returning from your medical leave. I am on year 30 of teaching here in TN and I love it. East TN is the prettiest part of our state 🙂
