LIVING IN THE SPACE OF THE UNKNOWN

Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea. Job 11:7-9, NIV

Do you ever find yourself in a place where you are afraid to hear from God? I often find myself in this place in my classroom. Sometimes I feel as if I have missed the mark and His voice—as if I somehow have gone past the point of Jesus’ redemption. I think if I am being totally honest, I am both desperate and afraid to hear God in these moments. These moments where, like Job, I am crying out. How can I do it all? How can I show up for these kids in a way that gives them insight into who You are? How can I help them learn and also meet the expectations of others for them? Where are you in my classroom, God?

Friend, I am learning that it is okay to have more questions than answers. It is okay to wonder deeply about the messages God is speaking to our hearts. It is okay to leave things undone, knowing that God is bigger than I could ever imagine. It is okay to ask, question, and seek Him with abandon. Even in our classrooms, when things feel as if there is not enough, there is. Because God is and always will be enough. God will never run out. He will never tire of your questions, and you will never get to the end of learning about Him. That is the beauty of walking with Jesus. It is a lifetime of learning and relearning. There is no limit to His faithfulness and love for you and each of your students. So ask, seek, knock, and know that He is always there with open arms waiting for you.

Jesus, help us to listen to You and give You our fears of the unknown. There are so many times throughout our days when all we can do is say, “I can’t, you can.” Help this be our prayer. Helps us to trust You in the unknown, Amen.
