Contract Uncertainty

That’s a really tough place to be, and I completely understand why you’re feeling nervous. Uncertainty is stressful, especially when you’ve been working so hard and don’t know what the future holds. First, I just want to remind you that your value isn’t tied to a contract. You are more than your job title, and this decision doesn’t define you.

Have you had a chance to meet with your administrator and get feedback? Sometimes, what feels uncertain to us is actually clearer to those making the decision. Even if it’s uncomfortable, having that conversation might give you some insight and help you focus on what you can control.

I also know that no matter how much we prepare, some things are just out of our hands. That’s where faith comes in, right? Proverbs 3:5-6 has been a grounding verse for me in uncertain seasons: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

This reminds us that even when we don’t know what’s ahead, God does.

Have you ever been in a season of uncertainty about your contract or job security? What was the hardest part for you? How did you navigate it? What kind of support was the most helpful? Please share your experiences in the comments so we can support one another.

You are not alone. We’re all in this together, working toward the same mission—even when our perspectives differ!

This bi-monthly blog, written by principal Jessica Cabeen, answers teachers’ tough and unfiltered questions about administration with honesty, transparency, and a heart for unity.
