You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to You and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever. Psalm 30:11-12, NIV
Lucas had decided he would no longer wear jeans to school on Thursdays because they were chorus rehearsal days. He felt that rehearsals were a special event, so he wanted to dress up and look his best. When his mother shared this information with me, it made me smile. I was delighted to hear that Lucas thought of chorus rehearsals in such special terms. He was clearly demonstrating his pride and joy at belonging to this group.
As Christians, we are members of a very special kingdom. But do we reflect the pride and joy that we should? God wants us to rejoice in Him and in the service to which He has called us. Do we delight in even the most mundane of tasks because we have been called to serve the King of Kings?
It can be so easy to get caught up in the bitter complaining of the teachers’ lounge or to consider the same old tasks as hum-drum and ordinary. But I want to encourage you to remember Whose you are and Whom you serve. Let that reminder set you apart from the others and clothe you in joy today.
Lord, please help us to honor You in all we do today. Amen.
